home organization challenge.

It can be daunting trying to organize your home once you’ve let areas get a bit chaotic. That’s how I felt about my pantry as I went to tackle it after the first of the year. I do have a bit of OCD in me and I love areas that are organized and tidy, but I have realized how much I tend to neglect those areas once they get out of control. That’s why I’m challenging you to take back your home (and life) by organizing one area you’ve been neglecting (even if it’s just the junk drawer)! I can guarantee once you start, it will motivate you to take on other areas you’ve been putting off. Being organized is not only going to make your space prettier, but you are going to feel so much lighter! Knowing where things are saves time (less clean up later) and alleviates so much stress! Below are my tips for getting organized at home!

Tackle one room at a time.

Start in the room you are in the most, like the kitchen. Take everything out of the drawers and cabinets you want to organize so you can start with a clean slate.

Purge!

Now that you’ve cleared the area, go piece by piece to determine what you no longer need. It’s amazing how much stuff you will end up getting rid of after you start to see what you have. Do you really need 4 potato peelers!?

Invest in drawer organizers, bins and baskets.

This will help you to put everything back in an organized way. Drawer organizers are the best for kitchen and junk drawers because you won’t spend time digging through all your utensils to find the one you need! I love these decorative plastic bins for cabinets because they come in a variety of sizes and colors. As for baskets, these are great for storing shoes in your entry way or blankets in the living room while also adding in a decorative element.

Make it pretty.

For spaces that are open to the public like a pantry or console table, not only can you organize everything, but you can also make it look pretty by adding in texture and decorative elements. This will also encourage you to want to keep it organized all the time because you will love looking at it.

So there you have it! What area of your home are you going to organize this year? I want to challenge you to tackle one project every weekend until you feel like your entire home is complete. These don’t have to be huge areas or take hours of your time. Like I said, start simple with the junk drawer and move on from there.
