when the stars align.

Hi, friends! Sorry I was a little MIA last week. It was a crazy busy week with styling appointments and a news segment {more on this coming soon}! But I'm back at it this week and ready to get things DONE!

A lot of people ask me how I got into personal styling so I thought I would share a little bit about how I got here. After having Tayler, I decided not to return to my cushy salaried job at Nordstrom corporate. I worked for them for almost 10 years and although I really enjoyed what I did, I didn't love the constant stress and politics that came with the role. I felt as if my true talents were being wasted on unnecessary meetings and projects and especially didn't love the work-life balance {there really wasn't one}. So I decided to take my blog and personal styling passion and go full steam ahead. Yes, this was scary, but I had saved my money and worked extremely hard from the minute I graduated college to get where I am today. Of course, I have to accredit a big part of this decision to my extremely hard-working husband who has made it possible for me to live my dream every single day {I love you babe}.

With that being said, after making this decision I wanted to take some time at home with the baby and truly enjoy being a mother. But 6 months into it I was so ready to get back out there again, so I started to get my butt into gear.  This meant, networking, networking, networking! I started looking into local businesses that catered to women & mom's as I knew this would be the best way to connect with people face to face. Through blogging, I also get invited to a lot of events so I made sure to RSVP yes to all of them. You never know who you might meet while at one of these events and in my case, this couldn't be have been truer!

Once my blog was up and running and going well, I decided to reach out to a local personal styling business called Styled Seattle to see if they ever hired outside stylists to work in their Style Suite. What's a Style Suite? It's where the clients come to try on their clothes chosen by their personal stylist in an intimate and personal setting. We have two suites, one in Southcenter Mall and one Downtown Seattle at Pacific Place. I loved this aspect of the business and knew I needed to find a way to get in there. So I emailed the owner and CEO, Darcy Camden to set up a meeting. As fate may have it, the same week I emailed her, one of her Lead Stylists had just left. This is where the stars aligned. I was offered to work in the Style Suite as a Stylist. What's great about this is that I'm still my own boss, but I have access to their suite and I'm referred to their clients who are inquiring about styling services. This is literally my dream job and I'm doing what I was already doing before but on a much bigger level. This opportunity has lead me to things like doing a news segment, helping out with Seattle fashion events, and meeting so many inspiring boss babes in the Pacific Northwest. Not to mention I get to work with amazing women {and Mamas} like Darcy and Olga {pictured below}. I could not be luckier.

So, the moral of the story is...never stop meeting people. Never give up on your dreams. And never fear the unknown. Becuase on the other end of an email asking a simple question could be the opportunity of a lifetime.
